About WeAct
WeAct is a collaborative chat app designed to amplify grassroots activism, giving social movements the tools for more effective ways of communicating and organizing.
The challenge
With ambitious goals to launch a grassroots activism app, WeAct had an urgent need to source mission-driven talent across UI/UX design, front-end development, and content marketing. However, with a typical start-up budget and a focus on agile growth, hiring full-time employees would have posed significant risks.
Finding the right talent presented another set of hurdles. WeAct needed people with the requisite skills, a genuine passion for activism, and the dedication to see projects through – a combination that proved hard to find.

The "Triple Threat" Talent Gap
"It's been crucial to have people on board who understand activism. I find there are fewer questions back and forth because Work for Impact talent is already aligned mentally with what we want to accomplish, and they're simply applying their skill set to that issue."
Dana Golding
Director of Customer Support & Operations
The Solution
WeAct utilizes Work for Impact to find experienced talent across the world, side-stepping the long-term commitments, risks, and expenses of the traditional hiring process.
Initially, the start-up worked with design and development talent to build the app, as well as a team of writers, editors, and community managers to craft an engaging brand through content marketing. As the company has grown, it’s diversified its remote workforce capabilities, leveraging Work for Impact to find talent with more specialized skill sets.
WeAct leveraged a global network to find experienced professionals without the "long-term commitments" or financial risks of traditional hiring. This allowed the startup to stay lean while accessing top-tier expertise from around the world.
In the early stages, the focus was on building the core product and brand. By hiring a diverse mix of designers, developers, and writers, the company established a cohesive identity and a functional application simultaneously.
The use of specialized writers, editors, and community managers allowed WeAct to craft an engaging brand narrative. This people-centric approach ensured that the startup didn't just have a product, but a loyal and active community.
As the company matured, its hiring strategy evolved from generalist roles to "more specialized skill sets." This adaptability shows how a remote workforce can grow in sophistication alongside the business’s needs.
